A story of destruction and reconstruction
Loosdorf Castle shows the tragedy of war on the one hand and the beauty that can be created through reconstruction on the other.
Loosdorf Castle was built in the Middle Ages and has experienced numerous wars over the centuries, some of the destruction of which is still visible today.
The story tells of incomprehensible vandalism, the culmination of which can still be seen today in the so-called "Scherbenzimmer". A room that serves as a memorial to the senseless destruction of the war.
The Broken Collection illustrates the structure in many different facets. From elements of different cultural eras to unique state rooms and restored porcelain pieces, Loosdorf Castle is characterized by constant efforts to preserve it.
The historic and globally unique collection of porcelain and shards is the heart of the Broken Collection.
Selected Asian and European pieces were restored and reconstructed by Japanese experts in Japan and at the University of Applied Arts Vienna using the latest techniques.
