is one of the oldest fortresses in Lower Austria and was first mentioned in documents in the 12th century.
History
Loosdorf Castle was originally built as a fortress in the Middle Ages and was owned by a number of noble families.
In the course of the 30 Years' War, the castle was extensively destroyed by a massive fire. The castle owes its present form to the Princes of Liechtenstein.
Due to its centuries-long history, the castle shows elements of both the Middle Ages, Classicism and the Renaissance. In 1834, the Piatti family acquired Loosdorf Castle.
Currently
Parts of the castle are open to the public.
On the one hand, the castle has a private museum, with parts of the shard collection currently on display in Japan.
On the other hand, the castle can be rented for events, seminars and as a film and shooting location.
