The family is an old Italian aristocratic family ("Marquese"), which was first mentioned in documents in the 11th century.
The family was based in northern Italy for centuries and during the Seven Years' War the family held high government offices at the Saxon court in Dresden.
In 1834, the Loosdorf estate was acquired and shortly afterwards the family was also elevated to the rank of Austrian counts by Emperor Ferdinand I.
The family has been farming and forestry around Loosdorf Castle since 1834.
